A moment of pause to hit play
I know, I know. We're already in the last week of October. A few hiccups kept October's Monthly Mix from dropping on time, but for the sake of discipline, consistency, and a really cool collab, here we are. My own personal mission with all my creative endeavors, no matter the vehicle, is to tell the stories of creatives around the globe and after doing that for a decade plus through design studios, and tech companies I am excited to be working directly with the creatives.
When I thought of this project, I had a handful of people whose stories I wanted to tell, and so far all have said yes. One of them being Lotso, a creative out of New Jersey who has been on a tear lately showcasing his ear for music through DJing.
He is a wizard when it comes to transitions and beat mashups. Taking vocals from songs the culture has already deemed classic and flipping the background track with another, combining genres, connecting eras, evoking emotion old and new, creating something that feels familiar but also completely different. Such sorcery can be seen in one of his most recent mixes that is currently lifting spirits across the interwebs, where he takes the vocals from Leon Thomas's "Mutt" and pairs them with the smooth sounds of Carl Thomas's "I Wish." Making the two Thomases, unrelated by blood, suddenly feel like family. Talk about a tune you can dance in middle of the living room to. I've done it, so should you too.
